Motivated by the role of non-decoupling effects in Higgs physics within (and beyond) the Standard Model, we revisit some fundamental aspects of (non)decoupling in field theories.

Starting from the pioneering works of Symanzik, Appelquist and Carazzone, we review the earlier literature on the topic to understand the field theory mechanisms underlying the decoupling of heavy fields; and the conditions under which the default behavior breaks down.

We will illustrate these aspects with a number of examples, with emphasis on BSM Higgs phenomenology, and discuss how they can be accounted for in the framework of Effective Field Theory.

After an introduction into SUSY, I start with a discussion of the fine-tuning in the MSSM. I point out that a large Higgsino mass not necessarily introduces a large fine-tuning when including the possibility of non-holomorphic soft-terms. I also show the impact of higher order corrections to the fine-tuning. In the second part of the talk I give up the assumption of 'natural SUSY', and discuss the phenomenological consequences of a high SUSY scale in the MSSM and beyond. The focus in this discussion is on an accurate prediction for the Higgs mass in the presence of very heavy SUSY states.

We will revisit the construction of CP and in particular P transformations in field theories based on classical principles and representation theory to motivate a redefinition of CP transformations for the case of several fields with equal quantum numbers.
